Digital map of industrial unionism and mobilisation
The “Digital Map of Industrial Unionism and Mobilisation” is an initiative aimed at surveying and geographically mapping factory-based industrial actions during the period 1974–1989. Specifically, through extensive research, the collection and indexing of daily newspapers (Avgi, Eleftherotypia, Rizospastis, and Socialistiki Allagi), the project sought to compile a detailed record of the various forms of industrial action undertaken at factories, including work stoppages, strikes, factory occupations, work stoppages involving the withholding of labour, demonstrations, and other forms of mobilisation. At the same time, the project sought to document major turning points in the operation of these industrial units during the period, such as factory closures, bankruptcies, and nationalisations.
The research was complicated by the fragmentary nature of the available information and the inconsistent publication of relevant news and reports in the press. Furthermore, it was not always possible to establish the exact addresses of the factories, so a broader geographical indication of their locations was adopted where necessary.
The mobilisations are displayed on the map according to the names and locations of the production units. Users can also search for them by year.
